About
Hey y’all!
I’m Jake. I’m a writer/director/filmmaker currently living on the east coast in the States. Here’s a little about me.
In 2021, I graduated with a BFA in Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts from the University of Colorado, Boulder. After graduating, I enlisted in the Marine Corps as a Combat Videographer, and for the last five years I’ve helped document the Marine Corps and communicate its value. I was named the Marine Corps’ Videographer of the Year in 2026, and continue to feel honored and proud to have had the chance to help tell the Marine Corps story.
I learned a lot about filmmaking before joining the military, and I’ve learned just as much since. In the military, you have very little control over what you’re capturing; situations are often fast-paced, intense, and dangerous, so you’re forced to become resourceful, agile, resilient, and versatile. As a combat cameraman, you are responsible for more than just your filmmaking duties; you are responsible for being a Marine and warfighter. As such, you have to be able to work fast, you have to be able to work hard, you have to be able to work in harsh, challenging conditions, you have to know how to deal with chaos, you have to know how to be flexible, how to solve problems, how to adapt, how to overcome, you have to know how to communicate, and you have to be able to lead. I’m good at these things now partly because of the Marine Corps and what a demanding proving ground it was, which is one of many reasons I’ll always be thankful to have been a part of it.
My path’s been unconventional. I’ve worked heavily in the world of documentary, I studied the world of the experimental in college, and I’m ultimately focused on working in the world of controlled-action, narrative filmmaking. My influences and experiences have been diverse, which I think has made me a stronger artist and filmmaker. I have been consistently involved with projects and training since joining the Marine Corps, and I have no intention of slowing down. I love writing, I love directing, I love making movies, but more than anything what I love is telling compelling stories, delivering great experiences, and communicating effectively with an audience.
Great stories and experiences stick with us, move us, and inspire us. The best ones can change your life. There have certainly been stories like that for me, and those are the kinds I want to tell.
Thanks for reading :) Reach out if you want to tell them with me.
